In a sport historically dominated by men, a new generation of Kenyan women is challenging stereotypes and championing sustainability through cycling. Meet a few of the women leading this transformation:
- Linet Wanjiru, a teacher from Nakuru, started biking to school as a fuel-saving measure. Today, she’s a two-time Green Heart® podium finisher and a local bike safety trainer.
- Mary Achieng, founder of “Girls on Gears,” trains young women in Kisumu to ride safely, competitively, and confidently.
- Faith Ndunge, a mother of three from Machakos, completed her first 60km ride last year. “Cycling helped me recover from postpartum depression and reconnect with nature,” she says.
Green Heart® Champions supports equal prize money and visibility for women athletes in all races. These women aren’t just riding — they’re leading a movement.
